The theme of SemiconNano2009 is the growth, characterisation and modelling of self-organised nanostructures, concentrating on “hard” semiconductor materials such as SiGe, the full range of III-Vs, and oxides. The intention is to provide a forum for intensive discussion, with a high level of interaction in an informal environment. Each session will have time allocated for general discussion of all the presentations given.
The principal topics will include:
Growth dynamics
Experimental studies of nanostructure development in epitaxial and catalyzed growth, including in situ techniques such as TEM and diffraction.
Theory
Fundamental theory and first principles methods; kinetic Monte Carlo modelling; theory of electronic properties; multi-scale modelling of growth.
Substrate effects
Growth on patterned substrates and spatial control of nucleation; effects of termination and reconstruction of single crystal surfaces.
Properties of nano-scale structures
Experimental studies of morphological, compositional, optical and statistical properties of low dimensional structures, including quantum dots and dot molecules, quantum rings and wires and nano-rods.
