Participation in Singapore Polytechnic Program

From March 10 (Mon.) to March 17 (Mon.), two 4th year students from Ibaraki
National College of Technology and Tokuyama National College of Technology
participated in the Singapore Polytechnic Program for 8 days.
Led by Mr. Chris Prowant, an instructor of general education, the students
toured the campus environment and classes at Singapore Polytechnic, interacted
with students to learn about the academic program, and gave a presentation about
Japan in English.
The program was designed to deepen participants’ understanding of Singapore’s
culture, society, and education through observation of public transportation,
modern and historical architecture, and urban planning.
They also interacted with Indian, Muslim, Chinese and Malay culture by
visiting various areas of Singapore. They also took part in a traditional
Indian dance class.
In addition, the participants were able to reunite with ANIL RAJ and JODIE
CHEOW JIAXUAN of Republic Polytechnic, who were enrolled as special auditing
students from September to January this year and received guidance to further
enhance their understanding of different cultures.
Part of this study tour was supported by the “Support Program for Overseas
Activities of College of Technology Students.”
We expect that the participation in this training program and the visit by
the faculty members will further accelerate the exchange between our school
and polytechnics, which are under a comprehensive agreement with OIST
Headquarters.
Our visit was received with enthusiasm by the staff and faculty associated with
the Student Development Department and the International Student Association.
NIT Anan College is encouraged to return to Singapore Polytechnic again next
year and they have expressed interests in sending exchange students to our school.
